baby birds
It's all go at the moment. We've had four baby sparrows being introduced to our back garden for the last week. Small, fluffy and cute, they sit on the mulberry tree and manage to look slightly bewildered. Their flying skills are improving rapidly, the first few days demonstrated some very wobbly landings indeed.
Newly arrived yesterday are three baby blackbirds. It was absolutely delightful to watch two of them having a long session in the bird bath. They were splashing water everywhere and clearly having a great time.
Meanwhile, out in the front garden, Tatty and Scrappy, the blue tit parents are still feeding their brood. If I stand quietly in the right place, they'll feed the babies when I'm there and I can hear the little ones all calling to be fed. I'm staying out of the front garden mostly, though, as the place I need to weed is next to the bush they perch on before flying up to the nest box and they aren't comfortable coming that close to me. I'd hate the chicks to go hungry just becasue I want to remove a couple of buttercups.
So, back to mowing the back lawn and having a good peek at the tadpoles in the pond. We've had loads survive this year. We must have a couple of hundred fat happy tadpoles - last year, they all vanished before they reached this size and we never knew what happened to them.
