Sweep out the old year

We've just tackled the cupboard under the stairs.

Score - 3 bags of rubbish, two bags for charity shops, loads of space and much better organisation.

You don't fancy doing my room do you, I've taken something over six bags of papers out and you can't see where it came from, I'm drowning here!

No luck there, I'm afraid. We've still got the office, the utility room, the bedroom and the library all in need of serious work.

Not forgetting the back path, the shed, the loft, the pond and all the other jobs on the to do list.

Ah well it was a forlorn hope anyway. I need to do some serious work on the workshops, not just tidying out but insulating the machine shop, given the past few mild winters I didn't bother, but now it's so cold that the glue is taking days rather than hours to dry.

What johnrw said!

I've a new year's resolution (72dpi) to get rid of all the junk in the house, and then to sort/collate/deduplicate the rest and to then get rid of good stuff that is either not needed or a duplicate/backup which I can replace if I ever need it ... a lot of stuff will be going out free to anyone who needs it (e.g. second and third best kitchen knives ... I threw away the ones that were so bad I kept cutting myself with them as I didn't want to inflict those on anyone else, ditto the rusting non-stick saucepans ... but I'll have things like a SCSI scanner, possibly a full size OHP, possibly a slide projector and screen, lots of glasses, odd plates etc.)

I'm convinced that decluttering my life will improve it, and I'm willing to take the future cost of replacing stuff that I get rid of now, in exchange for the benefits of having less clutter ...

... OTOH, the lego is not going!

There are some things which ought to be kept - like Lego, or Meccano OTOH I've disposed of three old computer systems two 15" and one 17"CRT monitors in the past couple of months.(they were virtually museum pieces, one was a Pentium 100 with 16Mb and a 1.2Gb hard drive, it was actually functional but even charities have standards)

My problem seems to be self replicating paperwork. leave a single sheet of papaer and inside a week it's a pile six inches deep.
