A transport of Delight

I've just been listening to 'A Transport of Delight".

When listening to verses like:

When cabbies try to pass me, before they overtakes,
I sticks me flippin' 'and out and jams on all me brakes,
Them jackal taxi drivers can only swear and cuss
Behind that monarch of the road,
Observer of the Highway Code,
That big six-wheeler scarlet-painted London transport diesel-engined 97-horsepower omnibus.

for some strange reason, I think of [livejournal.com profile] micavity...

"That big six-wheeler scarlet-painted London transport diesel-engined 97-horsepower omnibus." could very easily be updated to "that big eight-wheeler, red and blue painted, Wilts and Dorset, diesel-engined 97-horsepower omnibus"

So, if Kelvin can give me the correct statistics, I'll see if I can rewrite the song for him. (full lyrics are at http://www.iankitching.me.uk/humour/hippo/transp.html)

It's crying out for lines like "These means of locomotion, seem rather dull to us, the driver (and his mother) of a Dorset omnibus!"

PS. I want to buy the Bestiary, but Amazon only have it as part of a 3CD set and I already have the other two CDs. Any suggestions? (I couldn't see any copies on eBay)

What's your moral take on piracy? I think I've got it somewhere...

My moral take is that if I can't buy it legally, piracy is good. (I can read WMA files)

"That big six-wheeler scarlet-painted London transport diesel-engined 97-horsepower omnibus."

modern buses only have four wheels (the rear axle has four wheels on it but legally they count as two)..
Red and blue, yea, I cant think of a way of saying "more"..
diesel turbo..
there is no way of finding out what horsepower anything is these days, it just isn't used, it red lines at 35000 revs a min and will cruise happily at 750 revs a min..

1 horsepower is equivalent to 746 watts

So, all you need to know is the wattage of a bus engine.

If you read the lyrics (I can tell you didn't...) then you'd know what other statistics I'd need to do a new version of the song.

One then abandons bits relating to conducters and add in other bits about people with the wrong money and so forth. If you fancy it, we could spend an hour or so together and play around with it.
