vow of silence
I'm determined to lick this voice trouble. It's gone on far too long. The doctor says there's a viral infection that's gone to the vocal chords and all I can really do to help is to drink plenty of fluid and avoid talking.
I've been doing that pretty much anyway, but I've not made enough progress. Even just talking/whispering a little bit, I find I'm getting a burning sensation in the chest.
I've decided the best thing is to give the system the best possible rest and give up talking totally for a few days. So, it's been back to writing on scrap paper and using loads of sign language for the last few days. I've been a bit wobbly as well, so I'm guessing the virus returned to the rest of me a little bit.
I'll have to make a decision tomorrow afternoon as to whether I do a math lesson or not. I cancelled them all last week as the voice was so bad. (Oh, another pupil phoned to say she'd got a 'B', which is the highest you can get on the Intermediate paper.)
It gets a bit boring when you can't talk and you can only read/type so much before the shoulder goes, but on the other hand, I've been feeling a bit wobbly, so I've slept a fair bit.
I think I'm gaining ground overall, the chest pain has eased off a bit, but I don't want to risk undoing what ground I've managed to gain, so it's going to be silence for most of tomorrow and absolutely no phone calls (they're the worst as I have to talk louder on the phone, apart from a few select friends who are used to coping with clanger conversations.)

Well, I have to write a presentation on an environmental topic, so you get to listen to me burbling about identification of dust fallout for 20 minutes at some point later this week. Before which, I will be too busy writing the thing to do much tempting you into talking.
You will *not* be doing any further plot noodling while I'm there. It's not worth risking losing your voice for months. I remember the last time that happened. :-(

I'm more than happy to listen to any environmental presentation and wave evil notes at you where I think it needs tarting up.
I'll have to teach you how to read finger-spelling.
The really annoying thing is that the plot is starting to take on a new shape to suit the re-written characters, but it's developing faster than I can type it.

I'm still mending slowly - my doctor has signed me off for all of next week, but I may go in later in the week if they need me and once my antibiotics have finished. My chest pain has mostly eased and I'm left with lingering weakness, the irritating cough, and drug-induced tummy troubles.
