Les Barker

[livejournal.com profile] predatrix has decided to celebrate her birthday by going to see Les
Barker who is appearing at my local pub on Saturday September 4th. (The Mount,
Corfe Mullen, Dorset)
Anyone else fancy coming along and making it a suitable gathering of people who
like silly poetry, fannish things and smutty filk/fiction in particular?
Les Barker is a poet and a very funny one. He appears mainly at folk festivals,
but has also done the occasional SF convention. If you hear a poem read in a con
filk session and it isn't a Stanley Holloway monologue, then the chances are it
was written by Les Barker. His poems are full of bad puns and funny ideas. A
lot of them also contain dogs.
He also wears a cardigan (but the wrong sort...)
Floor space available on request for anyone wanting to stay overnight (this is
a good thing as it allows more fannish conversation/filking on the Sunday). I
guess Pred gets the spare bed seeing as she signed up first. That leaves one
more spare bed, a couple of good reclining chairs and lots of floor space. (we
have a few sleeping bags available)
Tickets are around 8 quid (I forget exactly how much, but that feels about
right) and if you ask me, I can book in advance for
you. Pred, I've booked for thee, me and Henry.

There is also a giant haamock which is in fact extremely comnfortable to sleep in. Only two drawbacks - being suspended in the air means no insulation underneath you as normally provided by a mattress, which means you can get very cold in winter if you don't allow for this; it requires a certain amount of getting in and out of, which means that if you need a pee in the middle of the night, no staggering out of bed and back without ever fully waking up. Especially if you're short-sighted and can't see what you're doing, which is the problem Predatrix and I tend to have with the thing. :-)
