Prisoner of Azkaban

In search of much-needed distraction, I took up [livejournal.com profile] lexin's offer to go and see The Prisoner of Azkaban with her and [livejournal.com profile] predatrix.

Saw it on Friday in London and enjoyed it. (Lowest moment was asking a waiter to turn down the muzak in a cafe as my voice was starting to struggle. "Can't do that without asking the manager" We were the only people there...)

It's the best film of the three so far. They've sliced out large chunks of the book and kept only what relates to the main plot. That works well. The hoppogrif was one of the best bits of CGI I've yet seen. My only real grip is that I kept waiting for Lupin to explain who Messers Moonie, Padfoot, Wormtail and Prongs were, and the moment never happened.

To anyone with a bit of Latin or classical knowledge, Remus Lupin must be the ultimate give-away name for a werewolf...

I have no interest in fetish clothing at all, but Lupin hits my one weakness in clothing. I cannot resist a man in an plain, old-fashioned cardigan. I admit it - I am a closet cardigan fetishist! (my grandad used to wear them and they hit my security-blanket button)

It was also nice to swop bits of fanfic around and generally discuss smutty fiction. Nice to know that my Sam/Harry story makes sense to a non-Stargate fan. Read [livejournal.com profile] predatrix's 'Snilch' story. It's actually a nice little piece about a boy growing up with Asperger's Syndrome and failing to understand why he is different and why everyone else can understand/interact with people easily. Calling it 'pre-slash' does it a dis-service in my mind. It's not a story about sex (regardless of the reference to masturbation) and should be read in its own right. It's linked off Pred's LJ if anyone wants to go and read it. [livejournal.com profile] predatrix give me a ring if you want me to whisper/croak remaining feedback down the phone.

The book I was reading on the train was 'Different Loving - the World of Sexual Dominance and Submission' by Gloria G Brame at al. It's a good guide to why people get involved in D/S and is heavy on interviews and quotes. It's not a 'how to do it' guide, but if you're like me and like to write from the psychological angle, then I'd recommend it. ISBN 0-679-76956-0

I've only given one member of my family my LJ address. I wonder why...
