All the coats have vanished from the hall, as has most of the footwear. Plants have been banished from the lounge floor. Henry's bedroom has been decluttered beyond belief. The lounge table is visible. Sleeping bags are being brought down from the loft (and sheets being dug out, on the grounds it may be too hot for sleeping bags). The freezer is full of food. Odd little notices are being printed out to tell new hands and remind old ones what the house rules are: "this is a kettle, don't hesitate to help yourself to tea/coffee/biscuits", "this is fruit, help yourself", "food, please autograph under 'carnivore' or 'vegetarian' so we know what to defrost", "this is a dish-washing rota, please pick a slot and sign your name".

The house is going to be cheerfully crowded. We're piling up the games in the lounge, we've acquired a batch of spare chairs and we'll probably stick a gazebo up in the garden.

I'm expecting around 25 people on Saturday and slightly less than that on Friday and Sunday.

I managed to trace another old friend this morning when I had a brainwave on how to refine the Google search. Third time lucky. He's supposed to be doing something else this weekend, but thinks he might be able to get out of it.

It's been really wonderful contacting people I haven't seen in ten years or so and saying 'would you like to come?' and almost without exception, they've said 'yes'. And those who said 'no' usually had a pretty compelling reason (like the friend who had his own wedding anniversary this weekend!).

Some friends live locally, which will at least prevent sleeping bags being stacked six deep.

I am so looking forward to this weekend!

Have a great time. We managed to round up most of the guests at our wedding reception for a silver wedding party. The photo album was fun with offspring giggling at what their parents wore then and the explanations of "that was my boyfriend of the time. I hadn't met you Dad then."

The best thing was finding out that the bridesmaids had taken each other's frocks home. Worked out because one had found hers in the airing cupboard and brought it along for a lark. Both bridesmaids were small at the time but we could work out from the photos whose dress it was.

If you have half as much fun as we did you'll be laughing for a week.
