Favourites meme

[livejournal.com profile] dougs did such a gentle 'non-tag' that I decided to pick it up. (I tend to ignore tags as a rule, but he made it voluntary)

1. Favourite scent:
I'm split between coffe, frying bacon (which always takes me back to my grandfather's house) and nothing at all. I get very irritated by the smells that some people douse themselves in an then bring into my personal space. One of my math pupils wears after-shave and I really hate the smell.

2. Favourite way to relax:
Walking is always good. Walking with family or friends is even better. Gardening is relaxing too. I never want to start it, but I always feel better afterwards.

3. Favourite film you own:
Probably 'Secretary', though 'Calamity Jane' runs a close second as the songs are so good.

4. Favourite film you don't already own:
I guess I'd like a copy of the English National Opera version of 'The Mikado'. Katisha was fantastic.

5. Favourite male film star(s):
Tends to change with time. Probably Russell Crowe at present. But then there's always Bogart and Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly.

6. Favourite female film star(s):
Don't really have one. Judi Dench maybe, for sheer presence, or maybe Susan Saradon.

7. Favourite book genre:
Depends on how I'm feeling. The more collected I am, the more I'll turn towards non-fiction. The last few years have been high on the stress levels and that's shown itself in me mostly re-reading old favourites, particularly SF. However, if I'm feeling able to concentrate, then I'll read a wide range from natural history, popular science, history, biography, etc.

8. Favourite clothing store:
Oxfam, followed by Help the Aged, Julia's House and occasionally Age Concern. I also buy the odd item at folk festivals and get underwear from Marks and Spencer.

9. Favourite non-clothing store:
Probably the second-hand bookshop in Poole. Or the Lemon Tree in Poole High Street. I don't believe in most 'new age' stuff, but I still like wandering around the shops as I love the wind chimes and the smell of incense and the little buddhas and the clothes and the whole look of the place. (crystals and gemstones are pretty even if you don't believe in crystal healing, etc)

10. Favourite cartoon character:
The easy answer would be none, but I read some of Richard's collection in the bathroom and I certainly prefer Dilbert to the rest.

11. Favourite CD you own:
'Between the Breaks, live' by Stan Rogers, because it contains 'The Mary Ellen Carter' which is the best song of all time. My second favourite is probably 'At the drop of another hat' by Flanders and Swann.

12. Favourite CD you don't already own:
Err. I don't buy that many CDs, but I guess the next one we get will probably be The Quandry Phase. There's some more folk I'll get at some point, but only when I'm feeling a bit richer.

13. Pass the torch to five of your LJ friends:
I don't do tags. If you feel like doing it, give it a go.
