I hav broadband

I now have broadband. I don't yet have my e-mail fixed, but hopefully [livejournal.com profile] waveney will have that sorted out tomorrow. He had enough fun today trying to get several totally different computers to all have working internet connections.

I'm looking forward to being able to do some proper research on the web instead of trying to fit it into the short amount of time I have free in the evenings.

And bye bye to BT's over the top bills for home highway.

Checking my 1899 bill online, I notice with mild amusment that my phone call to [livejournal.com profile] grumoldusenaut in America cost me about 12p (for 20 minutes), but even cheap calls to mobiles still add up quite fast. Memo to self: do not chat for long when phoning mobiles - it's *much* cheaper to call America.

you'll have the novelty of emails just appearing in your inbox whenever they were sent rather than in a block when you download them.

They still appear in a block when you get a mad neo-Nazi spammer sending out racist spam 50 at a time, as I discovered this morning...

Am looking forward to the use of VoIP. :-)

If your computer can handle it and whoever you're talking to also has it, Skype will let you talk to them for free.

I still go for the intermittent-connection approach. I work on the theory that the less time you're connected, the less chance you have of getting nailed by some hack you haven't secured-against.

My, you've had a BT account for a long time...

Just don't forget the security - Anti Virus, Anti Spam, Anti Spyware and a Firewall....
