Cotillion is one of my favourite Heyers. I love the way she 'codes' Jack as the romantic hero, dashing, independent and sexy, only to reveal him through his own actions to be a bit of a pig. I love the way she 'codes' Freddie as gay—his immaculate clothes, his distaste for fisticuffs, his way with interior decor, and the fact that none of the husbands is ever remotely jealous of him—only to reveal that he is the very best kind of boyfriend after all.

And I like Kitty, who does her best to sort out her own life, despite her disadvantages, and still has time to care about other people.
