The Return of Captain Invincible

'The Return of Captain Invincible' has long been a favourite of mine. It never did well at the box office, but it does have a small cult following.

It's a gentle parody of the superhero genre, with a dash of 'Rocky Horror'.

( I think SallyMn in particular will appreciate this)

Even though it's a comedy, I rather like the Captain himself - a superhero who fought for America in the World war, but then got hit by the McCarthy era for crimes like 'wearing a red cape'.  He turns in to an alcoholic hanging out in Australia and rather resents being dragged back to save the world again.

Some of the scenes like beginning attacked by a shop full of vacuum cleaners are pure ham from start to end.

You also get Christopher Lee as the evil Mr Midnight, singing a delightful song about alcohol and being the kind of evil genius he does so well.

If you want to relax and enjoy the wonderfully incompetent American president and his army chiefs, enjoy the musical numbers (I love the bit where the President stands up to sing and a flunky hastily pulls on a stage with the backing musicians) and reminisce with the Captain about the good old days, the pull up a pew:
