NEVER call a Barclays helpline

I have just spent over an HOUR on the phone trying to find someone at Barclays who can help with regard to Friday's Verified by Visa issue.

Because, after all that faff with Verified by Visa rejecting my payment - it still went through and has been taken from my bank account.  Which is really unfortunate as I went and bought the item in question from Amazon who never mess me about with things like Verified by Visa.

Even now, the best I have got after an hour is someone who says they'll send me a form to fill in.

I want my money back from Barclays - I HATE that bloody bank.

Sometimes if you look up a company on the internet, you can find a more useful place to complain than the 'Customer Disservice' number which seems to mainly be people who

a) don't know anything
b) don't have the authority to do anything and
c) don't get paid by problems solved, but by the numbers of calls answered.

Wait, whut?

Verified refused the payment, but the payment was still made? That's Wrong. On a whole extra level of wrong, what's the point of having it if it doesn't stop payments?

I guess this is why banks hate charity bank accounts. Hard to administer, no money in it. So only poor banks offer them.

Or ethical banks like Co-op.

Sadly, the Co-op are rather poor at the moment too, only in a different way :-)

This would be the same Co-op who close Basic accounts after 3 instances of so-called "mis-management" which can be as simple as a DD bouncing, these 3 instances being "since the account was opened", and sending the letter to the account holder *after* the account's been locked, so their card won't work, and their benefits payments get returned?

That ethical bank, yes?

There's a world of other stories there, but basically *no* bank is ethical in any meaningful way. They are all out to make money from your money, and more money from your lack of money and to hell with you as a person.

You need to contact the retailer who you bought the goods from rather than the bank.

Under the Distance Selling Regulations, you have a statutory right of cancellation of 7 working days days after receipt of the goods to withdraw from the contract.

See http://www.out-law.com/page-430 and http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/distance-selling-regulations/

There's two problems there. Firstly, the good haven't arrived - I suspect the verified by visa screw up may have resulted in money being taken but no proper order generated. SEcondly, I defy you to find a contact phone number or address on this web site - https://www.redsave.com/

Links Menu down on the left hand column, under "Help"

"Where can I find contact details?
You can conveniently and quickly contact us online through "Your Account" area, where you can complete a priority form to send to our customer representative team."

Except that when you go onto the Your Account page and log in, there is STILL no way to send them an email!

Ah, finally found it, but even then, it isn't exactly easy to find or helpful.

BB had so much trouble with Verified by Visa that it's become known as Terrified by Visa in our household.

I got so mad with them that I insisted HSBC took my card off the Terrified by Visa scheme. They did... and the next time I wanted to make a purchase I had to re-register in order to use my card.

We hates it, we does, my precioussss.
