Morris venue

I went into Poole yesterday too look at two particular venues.

These were the ones left in the pool after I'd eliminated the Arts Centre, Moose Hall, Masonic Hall (only does catered events), Salvation Army, St Peter's Centre, Conservative Club, Poole High School and Poole Christian Fellowship who all lacked a suitable free evening.

The Labour Hall and St James's Hall both had Tuesday evening free.  (We really wanted Thursday, but Tuesday was the next best option)

I went to the Labour Hall first - and this is where Google maps let me down.  I found the car park, but was unable to find the hall.  A passer-by told me that the hall had been demolished and was the patch of rubble to my left.  It appears that the club had combined with the Labour Club in Hamworthy and that was where Tuesday evening was available.

So, I cycled down to the other end of town to St James - which is in a really beautiful part of Poole Old town.  The hall was closed, but I could get a partial view through the window and some helpful ladies in the church itself were also able to give me some information about it.  Chatting to the ladies over a cup of tea, one of them mentioned another possible venue, a Council owned hall on Lagland Rd.  That was a new one to me, but I cycled back up town to go seek it.  It wasn't there, but I could see which Council building she had mistaken for a hall from the outside.

However, just up the road was an attractive new school:

so I asked a guy in the garden if the school hall was available for hire.

Two minutes later I was talking to a lady in the school office and looking at a really lovely hall that looked ideal for doing Border Morris.  It's £15 per hour which is comparable to other halls I was looking at and has free parking in the school playground.  It also comes with a kitchen if we want to use one.

It's in the centre of Poole and within walking distance of the bus stop.

Now the work really begins.  We have to decide when we want to book the first practice session and how many ways we can find to contact potential dancers and musicians before that date.  All suggestions welcome!

PS. I also appear to have offered to teach the school children how to do maypole dancing.  The caretaker has just found their old maypole!
