Xmas shopping

Amazingly it's been one of those days when I managed to find nearly everything I was looking for.

Henry's appearing in 'Guys and Dolls' so he had to have a trilby hat. Couldn't find one second-hand so had to get one in Marks and Spencer. (we managed to get a smart double-breasted suit in Oxfam)

I also succumbed to a teddy bear in Marks and Sparks. [livejournal.com profile] grumpoldusenaut and [livejournal.com profile] predatrix will know the one. I almost gave way when I was shopping with them in Bournemouth - would have done if [livejournal.com profile] grumpoldusenaut hadn't dragged us away back to the car park. Little Spencer bear is just the size to sit in the palm of my hand or in my pocket. No, [livejournal.com profile] dougs he isn't named after you - he's an own brand bear and that's what it said on his name tag.

Several of the family are Hitchikers fans, so that was several presents solved easily by purchase of the Tertiary Phase. Even my niece - smile.

Managed to find some good blouses in various charity shops (Molly has the sensible attitude that 2/3 nice second-hand blouses beat one new one by a large margin).

Clothes for my nephews (was toys last year, but their dad is on a reduced income now, so clothes are more practical).

Found a book that is right up Richard's street in the second-hand bookshop (he has the right attitude to second-hand as well). He likes stuff that is really in depth and that's hard to find in your average bookshop - certainly hard to find anywhere else in Poole.

Couldn't find the books I want to get for my sister anywhere in town (there's a couple of good SF writers from Novacon whose works she hasn't read - I guess I'll have to try Amazon for those).

The only one I struck out on was my dad. Does anyone know where I can buy one of those pens that you hang around your neck? Nobody seems to stock them these days, but he finds them very useful and the ones I got him half a decade ago have now died and the place where I bought them is long gone.

A number of "marketing" type organisations sell them - a google for "neck pen" will find a few.

Try http://www.blueskymarketing.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=204 as one example.
