Freecycle

I'm giving away a lot of plant stuff on Freecycle recently.  (Richard's having to take the phone calls from people collecting, as I can't get incoming email, and I can't talk over the phone, but we're managing)

I think I've now given Jerusalem artichokes to 17 people (they're very, very productive...) and autumn-fruiting raspberry canes to five people.

Let's see whose number 6 on the raspberry request list...  Hm.  Would appear to be a lady named June.  I can do outgoing email, so let's see if she wants to collect some today.

We transplanted our autumn-fruiting raspberries to where the Jerusalem artichokes were (yes, we know we'll still be digging artichokes out of there for a long time to come...) and because we'd got them really well established where they were (because we prepared the bed really well when we put them in), they'd multiplied very well and when we'd transplanted enough for the new bed, we still had loads left to give away.

How easy are jersulam artichokes to grow and do you think they could be done in a container?

I have grown them in a container, but it needs to be a *large* container, and they really do better in the ground. ([livejournal.com profile] watervole boggled slightly when I told her that I'd grown them in a container.)

It would need to be a deep container as they're very tall and need support. Apart from that, they're dead easy as they don't have any pests or diseases.

Oooooh.. do you have any raspberry canes left? Could probs give one a new home if so, but I'll bet they've been snapped up :)

I'm deleting my other comment to remove the phone number from public view (hopefully you should see if in your email), so reply to the main thread if you need to comment.

Fingers crossed that you get this, but I'll probs try ringing too at some point. Basically I only checked my email just now, so didn't see yours until it was too late.

Unfortunately I'm now at work Mon-Wed and we have someone round doing guttering on Thurs and poss Friday, plus Rob's still working oop north so evenings are out. If you have any canes left by then I will hopefully be able duck out during those days rather than monitoring guttering fella 24/7, but if they're all snapped up no worries :)

Drop me a line when you're free and I'll let you know if there's any left.
