Morris Movie

Several people have asked me if I've seen the trailer for A Life With Bells On.

I was actually at Wimborne Folk Festival when they filmed part of it.  I don't know if they shot any crowd scenes, but it seems likely there might be some.  If you ever see the film, look out for me with a collecting tin dressed as in my icon, and Richard and Henry dressed in extremely bright clothes, also with collecting tins.  (If you don't know what they look like, the ginger beards provide a clue).

It was interesting to watch the filming. There were some give-aways that you weren't watching a real morris team, though it would probably take a morris dancer to spot them.

I'd say from the trailer that it looks like it should be an enjoyable feel-good commedy and I'll certainly watch it if I get the chance.  (The only screening information I could see on the site was for the Dorset mobile cinema.  Does anyone know if it's getting a mainstream release?)

Oh, and spot the bit where he's dancing by the head of the Cerne Abbas Giant!

Where it's on

Looks like it's just the mobile cinema at the moment (Moviola (http://www.moviola.org/Morris.htm)), but I'd expect it to hit the art cinema circuit at some point.

Just seen the full trailer ... and the Cerne Abbas Giant is missing one important "bit" but has been given a hanky is his other hand, so he's actually Morris Dancing!

Interesting. I'd wondered if they used the real giant (he felt too small). Compare our icons.

The icon's fun. I suspect you could use that for a number of things...

Landmarks and Devils

Forgot about our local landmark The Devil's Arrows in Boroughbridge. Three large upright standing stones - largest is as big as the monoliths at Stonehenge. Visited them last summer. Two were in a cornfield so I didn't disturb them but the biggest is just at the side of the road. Its pretty imposing and makes you want to watch the Dr Who episode with the Ogri ( Stones of Blood) from behind the sofa.
