Hope for London Sparrows?

A project to help the London sparrow is being started.  The aim is to plant areas of meadow in order to attract insects which they need to feed their young.  Adult sparrows are seed eaters, but the chicks starve without insect food.

Here's wishing them the best of luck.  Sparrows, with their willingness to interact with people, have brought delight to many children over the years.  The ones that live in my hedge give me much entertainment.

Sparrows! Always a noisy, daring lot of brave and talkative, lovely birds! Fortunately still here, even in the big towns. Good for London if they succeed!

We had a load of House Sparrows in the garden at New Year. The sight is so rare nowadays that I didn't actually recognise them at first (though the Goldcrest was rather more exciting.) Although we get plenty of dunnocks, it's the first time in years we've had good old-fashioned sparrows. When I was a kid in Newcastle, we used to get 30 or 40 at a time.
