UK radiation therapy?

Just got an email from a guy in Richmond (via a site that vjezkova mentioned) who says he persuaded someone locally to treat his hand after he obtained a batch of research results from Germany.

If I can't get anyone locally, then Richmond sounds cheaper than Germany... (You have to stay around for a while as it's a short treatment on several successive days and you may have to go back for more than one treatment session after a few months)

He says it's making a small improvement - but, like me, his main aim is to prevent it getting worse. He reports that he's getting dry skin, but that's a known side-effect and has to be an improvement on not being able to extend your fingers... (Imagine not being able to play a musical instrument)

If anyone feels at a loose end, I could use a general natter over the phone.

Added later. I just checked up on the hospital he mentioned. Assumptions are dangerous things - he's in Richmond, Virginia...

If you don't mind talking to me while I'm on the hands-free, I'm doing a fair bit of driving around this evening and am up for a chat (if it turns out that the phone isn't good enough, then we can talk tomorrow)

And of course if you mean Richmond, London, then that's six miles or so from my house and there's a direct train (stopping at Twickenham inbetween) that runs from Feltham to Richmond in six minutes and runs at least four times an hour. The computer room sofabed is still clear, so you'd be more than welcome to stay here.

Of course you probably won't be up to sorting out my garden :-)

I've seen the research. Hands-free phones are just as dangerous as hand-held when driving , so I'll resist the temptation to talk to you this evening. Maybe tomorrow.

Your offer of accommodation if I take the Richmond option is greatly appreciated. Depending on how things pan out here, I may well take you up on it. As far as I'm aware, radiation therapy does not cause any pain or require any recovery time afterwards, so I'd have plenty of time to work on the garden...

Thanks. It looks as though there may be a UK option in Richmond, but if they're not willing to treat people from other parts of the country then Germany would certainly be my next choice.

Turns out he meant Richmond, Virginia, not Richmond UK. Germany just moved to the top of the list again...

Turns out to be Richmond Virginia. Ah well, it was a nice idea while it lasted.
