Anyone got an unwanted video player?

My video started playing up a few weeks ago when it refused to tape Torchwood for [livejournal.com profile] micavity, but now, it won't play tapes either.

It is deceased...

Before I spend money on a new one, does anyone have a video player lying unused at at bottom of a cupboard?

I'd suggest speaking to [livejournal.com profile] beermat just in case, but I'm pretty sure the one he had underwent Active Thing Management and has been deconstructed since.

If you have to go the purchase route the cheapest I've seen have been in Asda and Woolworth, both have videos an offer for under £30 pounds last time I was there.

You could try Freecycle.org (http://freecycle.org/), there is a group based in Wimbourne which covers your area. The URL for the list is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/freecycle-wimborneminster/ (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/freecycle-wimborneminster/)

I have one belonging to [livejournal.com profile] major_clanger, lent to Mater - but D's father just gave is a combined VHS/DVD! We might be able to arrange something!

I know not where you live, but I will be in London this weekend if that is any help. (I am cat-sitting for my sister who lives in SW8) Otherwise, my forrays to the capital are fairly unpredictable.

I have a perverse liking for Gwen/Owen. Not that I like either of them as a person (though I think Burn Gorman's terrific), but I think putting goody-goody Gwen with god-he's-awful Owen was the first bright move the show made.

Not London! Nor yet Dorset... Hmm. How urgently do you need a VHS? I may not be your best bet, as I'm in the Midlands.

Midlands is tricky. I think I'll see if anyone else has a spare machine.

Most VCRs made in the last 5 years are crap, made with the cheapest plastic parts possible in order to attempt to compete against DVD players. OTOH, you can occasionally get really good quality older (or recent, if you don't mind risking it) ones on ebay, etc, very cheaply.

Leeds any good?

Don't answer that literally, please; but I will probably have one spare as of next week-end.

I have no easy way of getting to Leeds.

If you could bring it along to Redemption, I could take it back from there.

Would that be workable? Thanks for the offer.

Are you likely to be visiting your parents over Christmas - I could probably find a DVD recorder...

Give me a call if you are interested...

THey're coming down here for Xmas this year.

I actually need it for playing old videos on - I buy them from Oxfam as they're much cheaper than second-hand DVDs.

Fairly certain I'm not going to Redemption, but if anyone in the area is, I'll ask them if they have any luggage space.
