New LJ spam

I see the latest form of LJ spam is advertisters friending you. I won't give examples, as I certainly won't give the bastards the benefit of a link.

Of the three people who've friended me in the last two weeks, one is a real person and two were spammers.

Yeah, I had a couple too. When I ignored them they de-friended a few hours later.

I've not had any of those, but I've had someone post spam as a comment to an old post of mine. What wankers!

Do we need hints on identifying these spammers?

The interest list on the user profile is usually a dead give-away. That and the fact that none of your friends are on their friends list.

The fact that everything on their info page appeared to be in Russian was a bit of a give-away with my most recent one. They appear to have de-friended me by now.

Darn, does that mean that LJ is going to be the new hotmail?

I don't see what they gain by doing it? How do you its even happening?

I have my LJ set up so that it notifies me when someone friends my journal - I like to see if someone I know has come onto LJ and I like to have a rough idea of who is reading my journal.

BEfore LJ introudced that feature, I used to go and check my flist manually every week or two to see if there was anyone I didn't recognise. I've only really noticed the spammers since I started getting the notifications, so I imagine that's the feature they're trying to take advantage of.
