Go and check your smoke alarm now!

We only realised our kitchen smoke alarm wasn't working *after* tea had burnt and produced massive clouds of smoke.

I can never decide whether mine's working or not. Sometimes it goes off at the slightest hint of smoke, sometimes it doesn't seem at all interested. I change the batteries from time to time to encourage it, but have begun to suspect more drastic action is needed.

That's one of the advantages of holding rituals at home, I guess. If we forget to turn the smoke alarm off before we start, we get a free test of it soon after we light incense...

We check it regularly. Don't trust it, but do check it.

I can't have one in the kitchen, it would go off all the time. Even the one in my stairwell (a full room away from the kitchen) sometimes goes off when I'm cooking.
