If I see that stupid 'gay rights' meme one more time, I shall scream. (If this leads anyone to the curious belief that I'm anti-rights for any group of any kind, then just let me know and I'll drop you from my flist.)

Yeah, what you said. We really need more divisive junior-high crap floating around the internets, don't we?

Ugh, yes. Not content with the dullness of 'send this chain letter or you'll get seven years bad luck' we now have 'send this chain letter or you're anti-gay-rights.' Ummm, hello, aren't these my rights we're discussing? I guess now I've failed to fill in the meme I should beat myself up and dump myself in an alley? It's beyond irritating.

Hmmm, I must have a very mature flist, since I haven't seen the meme.

I've had it three times - and one of those was from someone I really expected better of. (I don't mind the two parodies that I've also seen)

Essentially, it's a chain letter guilt trip. If you don't repeat it, then you're accused of being anti.

What gay rights meme?

I've been away, as you know...

Oh, right. Well I can state right here that I've no problems with gay rights cos it leaves more women for the rest of us... They're not competition, as it were.

Funny, on my FL it's all been people complaining about it not repeating it!

Most LJ users are barely out of junior high by age and maturity, I fear. We need a new system - like Usenet used to be - where we can all decamp and be mature together :-(

[identity profile] purpletigron.livejournal.com 2006-10-06 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
What makes you think that's the original?

Because that is the version I saw first, and the version I've seen quoted in LJs posting parodies when people asked what they were talking about, so I assumed it was the original version.

If you mean "what makes you think that was the first time someone posted it?" I don't think that. It was just the first example of the original version I dug up to point lonemagpie at.
