RSI and workrave

[livejournal.com profile] rmc28 gave me a very useful tip recently, which I quote here.

It was originaly posted at http://autopope.livejournal.com/129073.html?view=2010417#t2010417

Having had a very bad time with RSI a few years ago, I would second recommendations of exercise and trying out non-standard keyboards. I also heartily recommend a little piece of open-source software called Workrave. This sits on your desktop, monitors when you are typing or using the mouse, and pops up reminders to take 30s "microbreaks" every 3 minutes as well as a 10-minute break every 45 minutes of typing. You can customise the length of breaks and typing/mouse time taken to trigger them. Even better, if you stop typing for the length of a break, the timer resets. So if you have a conversation with someone and aren't typing for 10 minutes as a result, you don't get forced off the computer a few minutes later because 'your time is up'.

I've been trying it for two days now, and I'd say it's definitely helping.
