Asthma

I'm having the worst asthma attack I've had in at least five years. (Not keel over and die, but feeling pretty tired and not even able to jog without wheezing horrendously)

THe doctor's put me on steroid tablets for a few days. If I remember the side effects correctly, I probably won't sleep much for the next couple of nights. However, it should hopefully shift the asthma back to its normal low level.

So, if you're expecting e-mail from me, don't be surprised if I'm slow replying to stuff. Convention stuff will probably pile up for a day or two.

I had no idea you were an asthmatic. So am I. I had severe attacks for many years, but about 5 years ago they started to get much better due to a medication I've been taking (Singulair). When I had attacks before I would take a week long course of prednisone, which caused insomnia and mood swings, but I know it affects folks differently. I haven't had an attack in those 5 years, but I really have to take care of myself when I get a cold like the one I am fighting now.

Sympathy. I've been there.

Singluar - that rings vague bells. Is it an inhaled steroid? Or is it something different? If it's the latter, I may have been one of the early trials for it. Sadly, I had to give it up as I got the most incredible stomach cramps. (and I was highly motivated for it to work as I can't take inhaled steroids - they're the original cause of my voice problems)

It's prednisone that I'm on now and I know I'll have insomnia. I can't remember if it gives me mood swings, but if you see [livejournal.com profile] waveney making agonised postings, then you can assume it does...

All the asthmatics at work have kicked off today, there's that regular rhythmic not-quite cough, and wheezing when we've been outside.

Minor league stuff, but we've all had it. I think it's this blast of cold clear air.

[sympathy]

Hope it passes soon.

Not in my case. This attack started before the cold air hit. It's been getting worse for ten days or so. I suspect there must be some specific cause, but I don't know what.
