Kinky Boots - film review

I've just been to see Kinky Boots with entorien. REview and spoilers follow.

We greatly enjoyed it. Feelgood movie with fetish, what more could you ask for?

It's pure hokum (though loosely based on a true story). YOu can see every plot element before it arrives, but then I was already expecting that. That's what feelgood movies are about. You expect the young girl from the factory floor to win out over the unsympathetic fiancee. You expect the staff to voluntarily work overnight to meet the deadline the moment they know he's mortgaged his house to try and keep them in work. YOu expect the bigoted worker gradually coming around to relate to the man in a frock as a human being.

It's fun. And there were a few genuinely moving moments.

And it has men in drag doing dance routines in thigh length boots.

And it's nice to see a black man as the drag queen for a change. He looks rather good in his outfit too.

Did you know that the Drag Queen is played by the actor who was the villain in 'Serenity'?

I hadn't realised! I think his acting skills got more scope as the drag queen as he's allowed a much wider range of emotions.

Chiwetel Ejiofor - a highly praised young actor, mostly on stage but he's done a few films now (eg Dirty Pretty Things).
