Boredom

Tried talking again this morning. Turned out to be a bad idea. The voice had gone by tea time.

I've done all that my shoulder will allow on the computer. It's really too dark outside to do gardening. Reading a book will set off the shoulder. We've got gaming friends round, so watching the TV is out (it's in the living room). The voice is too bad to join in the gaming.

I'm BORED. I guess there's nothing left but Radio 4 - the catch is that I really prefer listening to radio when I'm doing something else physically.

My deepest sympathies...I'm still coughing...

[identity profile] lexin.livejournal.com 2005-09-02 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
And I can't concentrate long enough to write.

Deep sigh.

Me coughing too - its only been 3 months, so nothing to complain about yet I suppose!

Patchwork, embroidery, knitting?

All set the neck trouble off. It can take me years even to do a small cross-stitch. It's looking down that tends to be the problem. And holding things up also triggers it.

Have you tried using a book stand to hold a book open at a convenient height for you? Or would reaching up to turn the page bugger up your shoulder?

I had intermittent neck trouble for years after I tore a muscle in it (long story). It's never recovered 100% but I don't tend to get the 'bad neck days' any more as long as I treat it carefully.

Audio books?

Loads of sympathy. Please take care, boring as it is not talking at all is the way to go. I assume you have been to the GP to check it's nothing more serious like nodules?

For the boredom what about audio books? There's the hitchhiker stuff, loads of Dr Who, loads of children's stuff - Dahl for instance is great fun to listen to.

Seconded on the audio books. Or audio plays. Go and re-listen to Soldiers of Love to cheer yourself up. Sit in the kitchen with the door shut so as not to disturb the gamers.

Second TV???

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2005-09-02 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Ouch, my deepest sympathies. Doing nothing is only fun when it's by choice, not because you/re forced into it by your health...

Poi?

[identity profile] sugoll.livejournal.com 2005-09-02 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Didn't you say that poi helped with the shoulder? If the garden's out, then you could shorten the strings...

Do you do crosswords? Mostly thinking, with occasional writing (unless you're like my friend who thought it was cheating to do any filling in until you'd solved all the clues in your head).

Had one for a decade or more. And a lightweight one for when I'm away from home. They allow me to read for about half an hour at a go, but only if the neck isn't too bad already.

I don't know why, but I don't like listening to audio books. Henry has several and loves them.

I can only listen to them when I'm doing something else like washing dishes. I have that need to be part of the process. My attention drifts if I'm just listening.

That would require another very expensive reclining chair. I can only watch TV for about 10 mins unless I have exactly the right back/shoulder support.

I shall give it a try. I've been neglecting the poi recently.

Crosswords require looking down and writing. I can't do sudoku for the same reason. I love them both, but they hurt too much to complete a puzzle.
